Sex offender accused of stabbing two people in downtown Junction

A Grand Junction man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing two people in south downtown Grand Junction earlier this summer.

Fredrick Robert Chihocky Jr., 30, 575 Dike Road, was booked into Mesa County Jail on Wednesday after being extradited from Arizona. He made his first appearance in court via video feed from the jail Thursday and learned he could be charged with two counts of second-degree assault, four counts of menacing with a deadly weapon and a single count of first-degree criminal trespass. County Judge Bruce Raaum ordered him held on $25,000 bond.

Chihocky is accused of slashing Richard Dominick, 28, and Nichole Macelhaney, 30, with a folding knife at Seventh Street and Riverside Parkway early on the morning of June 30.

Macelhaney told police that Dominick, Chihocky, Chihocky’s wife and others had been at her house in Clifton that night when Chihocky and his wife got into an argument and Chihocky wanted to leave. She said she and others decided to follow Chihocky and his wife because they said Chihocky gets violent when he’s drunk.

Witnesses said the vehicle occupied by Chihocky and his wife swerved near Seventh Street and Orchard Avenue. When the two vehicles arrived at Seventh Street and Riverside Parkway, Chihocky got out of the car, unfolded a knife, approached the partially opened window on the passenger side of the car Dominick, Macelhaney and others were in and began slashing with the knife, the affidavit said.

Macelhaney was cut on the bottom of her foot while trying to protect herself, and Dominick was stabbed in the right calf and right arm. Dominick received 19 stitches at St. Mary’s Hospital, the affidavit said.

In addition to being arrested related to the stabbing, Chihocky was arrested on suspicion of failing to register as a sex offender, police said.
