Shelton State pitches JUCO tourney’s first shutout
Alex Aultman and Terrance Dedrick combined on a five-hit shutout as Shelton State (Ala.) Community College bounced back from a first-round loss to beat Polk State (Fla.) College, 6-0, Tuesday in the Alpine Bank Junior College World Series.
After walking nine batters in their opening loss, the Buccaneers (39-22) got six strong innings from starter and winning pitcher Alex Aultman. He walked the first batter of the game, then retired the next 14 in a row. Dedrick entered the game in the top of the seventh after consecutive singles by Polk State. He worked out of the jam and blanked the Eagles the rest of the way on one hit.
Jake Vickerson led Shelton State’s hitters with a 3-for-5 showing.
The loss eliminated Polk State (46-12) from the tournament.
