Sheriff: 16-year-old drowns in Delta potholes
A 16-year-old Montrose boy drowned Thursday in the potholes in Escalante Canyon, according to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office.
Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee said his office still in investigating the matter, but the boy apparently was swimming in the potholes with some friends and drowned.
The nature of why, he said, still is unknown.
He said the incident occurred Thursday afternoon in potholes near Escalante Road in the northwest portion of the county.
The boy’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin, he said.
