Shooting victim dies, case being investigated as homicide
A 36-year-old man died from injuries he sustained in a shooting Saturday night in Fruitvale and authorities have launched a homicide investigation.
The Mesa County Coroner’s Office this afternoon identified the victim as Travis Carothers of Grand Junction. Officials said he sustained gunshot wounds to his chest and abdomen and ruled his death a homicide.
Mesa County sheriff’s officials confirmed the man who was shot in the 2900 block of View Drive died on Sunday, and they are investigating the case. Authorities have said they do not believe this was a random act, and that they believe it was an isolated incident.
Carothers was found lying in a driveway. He was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he died.
Investigators are actively interviewing witnesses. They have not said anything about a suspect or suspects, but no arrests directly related to the shooting have been made.
A woman was found inside the home and was arrested on active warrants not related to the shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
