Son arrested in Gypsum man’s death

A 13-year-old Gypsum teen has been arrested in the death of his father, whose body was found after he missed days of work and failed to meet with deputies to discuss a graffiti investigation involving his son.

The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office said the 50-year-old man was found dead in his home after a deputy went there late Monday morning.

The man’s employer had contacted the sheriff’s office earlier Monday, saying the son had called in several days in a row to say his father was ill and wouldn’t be at work. The sheriff’s office said the father also was to have met with deputies last Wednesday to discuss the graffiti investigation but never showed up.

Authorities said the son answered the door Monday and said his dad was dead.

The son was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder and booked into the Eagle County Detentions Facility, and was to be transported to Mount View Youth Services Center detention facility in Lakewood.

Authorities were withholding the victim’s name pending positive identification and notification of next of kin, and also did not release the name of the son.
