Southwest Arbor and Earth Day fest shows off park renovation

Do you know someone who is in need of tree care but may not be able to afford it? Nominations will be taken from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Lincoln Park Barn for individuals to receive free tree service donated by area tree services.

Get outdoors and celebrate spring at the 12th annual Southwest Arbor Fest and Earth Day celebration from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Lincoln Park.

Arrive early and be a part of the 10 a.m. grand opening ceremonies for Phase I and II of the Lincoln Park Redevelopment Project. A ribbon cutting ceremony, with Lorax-themed treats and activities for kids, will kick off the day and celebrate the completion of the work in the park, including the new playground area.

Beginning at 11 a.m., Arbor Fest will offer activities for kids, free tree seedlings, Arbor Day educational sessions, food, arts and crafts vendors, entertainment and more. Live music will be performed by Tony Rosario, Bobby Walker and Miss Emily.

There will be chili and salsa competitions, e-waste recycling (fees may apply), touch-a-truck, and a jalapeno eating contest in which the last person standing wins $100.

The event will feature a craft beer expo with samples from a number of Western Slope breweries. Cost is $20 for unlimited beer tasting and a glass. There also will be a chili tasting with a cost of $5.

Proceeds will go to Roice-Hurst Humane Society and C.L.A.W.S.
