Special Olympics Colorado Summer Games announces return to GJ

Special Olympics Colorado announced today on Colorado Mesa University’s campus that it will return to Grand Junction for the 2014 Special Olympics Colorado Summer Games.

The summer games will be May 31-June 1, and represent the largest Special Olympics sporting event of the year in the state, a press release from CMU said.

The two-day event features athletes competing for state titles in track and field, soccer, swimming, gymnastics and powerlifting.

The Opening Ceremonies, which are free and open to the public, are 10 a.m., May 31.

Last year, more than 1,200 athletes and hundreds of volunteers, sponsors and supporters took part in the Summer Games, the release said.
