Fruita Monument’s final three doubles teams won Thursday to rally the Wildcats past Palmer Ridge 4-3 in Monument.
Once the singles players were done, Fruita trailed 2-1, its only win a Meredith Soychack victory by forfeit at No. 2 singles, and all eyes were on doubles.
“It’s real cool to have that bonding with everybody and have everybody watching,” said Fruita No. 3 doubles player Taylor Poudrier who, along with Shannon Hautzinger, defeated Palmer Ridge’s Kaipal Kron and Kelsey Carpenter 6-1, 6-3 to help the ‘Cats come back. The Wildcats’ No. 2 doubles team of Jacque Soychak and Lindsay Dempsey won a thrilling three-setter, claiming a 14-12 third-set tiebreaker for a crucial team point.
