Mesa’s Danner, Carpenter win RMAC player of week awards

Colorado Mesa swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference baseball weekly awards Tuesday after winning three of four last week against Montana State University-Billings.

Joey Danner, who threw six shutout innings Saturday in a 6-2 victory, was selected the pitcher of the week. Danner, a 6-foot-6 junior right-hander from Scottsdale, Ariz., allowed only three hits and three base runners in his outing.

Garrett Carpenter, who had three multi-hit games in the series, was selected the player of the week. The 5-10 junior outfielder/pitcher from Bellflower, Calif., went 7 for 11 with five RBI, scored seven runs and had one double and one triple. He also came in to pitch in two of the four games, picking up the save in the series finale.

The Mavericks (4-3) play a three-game series at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix this weekend.
