Locals make Post’s all-state teams

The Denver Post released its all-state baseball teams, which in Class 3A included first-teamers Danny Bartels of Rifle and Willy Corey of Olathe.

Bartels was 10-2 with 100 strikeouts and 19 walks in 71 innings pitched. He posted a 1.72 ERA for the Bears.

Corey, a pitcher, went 7-0 with a 0.84 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 50 innings for the Pirates, the Class 3A-District 3 champion. He also hit .508 with three home runs, six triples and 30 RBI.

In Class 2A, Tyler Kendall of Paonia hit .479 with five home runs and 34 RBI.

Paonia was the Class 2A-District 2 champion.

All-state honorable mention honors were given to: Fruita Monument’s Drew Bridges and Grand Junction’s Sean Rubalcaba in Class 5A; Palisade’s Kameron Pfaff and Caden Woods in Class 4A; Edgar Macias and Jamie Rodriguez of Hotchkiss in Class 3A; and Paonia’s Landon Long in Class 2A.
