Mavs’ Williams wins RMAC award

Colorado Mesa baseball pitcher Matt Williams is the RMAC pitcher of the week.

The senior right-hander pitched a complete game shutout in the Mavericks’ 2-0 victory over Regis on Friday in Denver.

Williams scattered six hits and struck out four Rangers. He did not allow a base runner past second base.

Colorado Mesa plays a four-game series this weekend at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.

College Wrestling

Seven Colorado Mesa University wrestlers were selected to the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic team this week.

The Mavericks were 12th in the nation with a 3.140 team grade point average.

Senior Jon Gappmaier made the first team with a 3.47 GPA in pre-business administration.

Sophomore Trevor Donarski (3.59, kinesiology), sophomore James Martinez (3.06, construction management) and senior Tyler Nelson (3.60, math education) made the second team.

Jared Cass (3.31, kinesiology), Telbe Storbeck (3.55, political science) and Mitch Wyatt (3.87, exercise science) made honorable mention.

The Mavericks have finished in the top 15 the past four seasons.
