Gene Taylor’s ends regular season

Gene Taylor’s American Legion team split a doubleheader Wednesday with the Boulder Eagles to finish the league season 10-2.

The Eagles one-hit Gene Taylor’s in Wednesday’s first game in Boulder, winning 6-0. Taylor’s came back to win the second game 5-4.

Taylor’s, 18-15 overall, leads the A-1 league standings, with Brighton 10-2 in the A-2 league. Brighton defeated Gene Taylor’s 7-2 in a nonleague game to open the summer season. The top eight teams from the two leagues play in the state tournament July 28-31 in Boulder. Boulder is 6-2 in the A-1 league with four more games this week.

Drag Racing

Local drivers fare well in Jr. finals

Ryan Marshall led a group of 14 Western Slope junior dragsters in the NHRA Junior Drag Racing League Western Conference finals earlier this month.

Marshall took second place in the 15-under division and won a trophy for being closest to his dial-in time in the first round.

Austin Schoenfield and Shelby Rae Schoenfield reached the quarterfinals in the 14-under and 12-under divisions, respectively.

Charlie Ruckman won a trophy for the best reaction time in the 14-under division.

Violet Bambino, Cody Espinoza, Dominic Pearmain, Pontiac Pearmain, Justin Rusher, Caleb Yarbrough, Kaleb Nowlin, Trent Dinkel, Mikayla Vollander and Dylin LaBlue also competed.

Softball

Kaos drops pair in World Series

The Colorado Kaos softball team went 0-2 Wednesday in pool play in the Triple Crown World Series.

The Kaos lost to the Southern Cal Monsters 11-1, with Hannah Englebrecht taking the loss, then fell 13-6 to the Utah Sting, with Jenni Sneddon in the pitching circle.

This morning, the Kaos begins bracket play against the Arizona Dream.
