Coroner: Driver, 24, from Palisade dead after Lands End rollover

John David Maldonado, 24, of Palisade, was killed while driving a 1995 Chevy pickup after his vehicle rolled on Lands End Road on Saturday night.

Maldonado died of blunt force head injuries and his death is being ruled an accident, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

Also in the vehicle crash were a 38-year-old man from Clifton and a 32-year-old man from Grand Junction who were taken to a hospital for moderate injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

A 42-year-old woman from Grand Junction was in the vehicle, but not injured, the CSP said. No one was wearing seat belts during the incident.

The eastbound vehicle was about four miles up the roadway from U.S. Highway 50. The vehicle rolled about 20 feet off the gravel roadway and landed on its top, the CSP said.

Condolences to his family.

The accident was between the old CCC camp and Wild Rose campground. NOT 4 miles from Highway 50. More like 10 miles.
