State Patrol looking for info from fatal crash
A 75-year-old Grand Junction man died Tuesday when he crashed his vehicle into the rear of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70, authorities said.
Paul Guillory was driving his Nissan Pathfinder eastbound about 8 a.m. near milepost 35 when he hit the back end of a tractor-trailer combination driven by Aurora’s Allan Theriault, 48, who was uninjured.
An investigation is ongoing, but preliminary reports from the State Patrol indicate Theriault stopped because “multiple vehicles” stopped in front of him for a small black and white dog loose on the road, Trooper Justin Williams said.
The dog was estimated to be between 10 to 15 pounds, Williams said.
When troopers arrived on-scene, however, the dog, its owners and the drivers who stopped ahead of Theriault were gone, Williams said.
No charges were filed as of Tuesday afternoon, but Williams said it is illegal to impede the flow of traffic on an interstate.
Anyone with information on the dog’s owners is encouraged to call Williams at (970) 945-6198.
