Steamboat discussing plans to add night skiing
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — Steamboat Ski Area is hosting an open house Wednesday to tell the public more about its plans to add night skiing this winter.
The Steamboat Pilot & Today reports the resort plans to light about 1,000 vertical feet of lower terrain from the top of Christie Peak to the base area to extend the ski day until 9:30 p.m. The lights would illuminate about five trails, plus a terrain park.
Pricing for night skiing hasn’t been finalized.
Steamboat Springs City Councilwoman Sonja Macys says some constituents who live near the base of the ski area are concerned about impacts the lights might have.
Nearby Howelsen Hill already offers night skiing.
