Stolen ambulance found east of Pueblo
An ambulance reportedly stolen from a fire station in Collbran has been found abandoned east of Pueblo, some 380-plus miles from home.
Plateau Valley Fire Department Chief Mike Lockwood said he was told by law enforcement this morning that the ambulance was found in a hospital parking lot in La Junta. Lockwood said the condition of the ambulance wasn’t known. It was expected to be processed for possible evidence, such as fingerprints or DNA, he said.
The ambulance, a 2004 GMC, was reported stolen to Mesa County law enforcement Tuesday afternoon from the fire district’s station in Collbran. Lockwood said the vehicle was parked in the locked facility around 2 p.m. Monday and discovered missing around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
There was no obvious sign of forced entry to the Collbran station, Lockwood said.
The Plateau Valley district provides fire and ambulance coverage for a roughly 800-square mile area on Grand Mesa, with stations in the town of Mesa, Collbran and Molina.
