Suspect in shootings could face 5 counts of attempted murder
A Fruitvale man who allegedly shot and injured five people during a party early Sunday may be charged with five counts of attempted murder, according to Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger.
Joshua Gregory Anton, 20, who lives at 2988 Krista St., was arrested in connection with a shooting at a neighbor’s house, 2984 Krista St., after an incident at about 2:15 a.m.
Anton, who appeared in court Monday by video from Mesa County Jail, was handed a $500,000 bond and was issued a restraining order against the five victims.
Three of the five were listed in fair condition Monday at St. Mary’s Hospital, according to spokeswoman Samantha Moe. Two were not listed in the hospital’s directory.
All five had been taken to the hospital, according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department.
In court Monday, Anton appeared to have a black eye and contusions on his head.
An affidavit outlining the events of the incident was under seal Monday, but Hautzinger said it likely will be unsealed later this week after investigators interview others who were at the home where the shooting took place. It was a scene he described as a “fairly confusing, pretty chaotic situation.”
Though all of their ages were not released, the oldest victim is 21, Hautzinger said.
Anton will be formally charged Dec. 29.
