Suspected robber holding hostage at Denver store

DENVER – Police are negotiating with at least one person inside a Denver RadioShack store where a suspected robber is holding at least one person hostage.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether there were just one or two suspects inside the store Friday.

Police spokesman John White said at least one officer is in the store conducting negotiations, and a SWAT team has surrounded the building.

A robbery was reported at the store at about 9:45 a.m.

Initial reports said two people were injured when a gunman opened fire at the store, but White couldn’t confirm that shots were fired or if anyone was hurt.

People in nearby businesses have been told to stay indoors until the scene is clear. The standoff has shut down a portion of busy Colfax Avenue.
