Teen dies in Fruita desert crash overnight

An 18-year-old female was killed after an early Saturday morning crash in the North Fruita Desert, the Colorado State Patrol reports.

Lydia Perez of Fruita was ejected when the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee she was riding in rolled just after midnight on 18 6/10 Road and she was ejected. Law enforcement said she was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the jeep, 20-year-old Alexis Perez, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and faces charges of felony vehicular homicide, among other charges.
