Telephone town hall planned for tonight

Grand Junction City Council members and chiefs of the Grand Junction fire and police departments will sponsor a telephone town hall beginning at 7 tonight.

The call will go out to all listed land line numbers in the city. Anyone who does not receive the call can still join the conversation by dialing 1-877-229-8493 and pressing the numbers 15967 when asked to key in a PIN number.

The call will mark the final stage of the city’s listening tour, which was designed to help the city collect opinions about public safety facility needs in Grand Junction and potential ways to fund new or relocated police, fire and 911 communication buildings.

The listening tour included two surveys and five public meetings.

The call will begin with comments from council members and the chiefs, then go into a question and answer session. Anyone wishing to ask a question will be routed to a moderator, who will sort questions to avoid repetition. Participants also can choose to record a comment at the end of the phone call, which should last about an hour, according to city spokeswoman Sam Rainguet.

Rainguet said the city expects up to 2,000 people to participate in the call.

Commenting is not available in this channel entry.
