Theater shooting suspect James Holmes due in court

CENTENNIAL — Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes is due back in court.

During Thursday’s appearance, lawyers are expected to discuss when they’ll be ready for a preliminary hearing, a public airing of the evidence gathered against Holmes. The hearing could be held next month or it could be delayed depending on what prosecutors and defense lawyers tell Judge William B. Sylvester.

Sylvester will use the preliminary hearing to determine if the case against the former University of Colorado graduate student should go to trial.

The 24-year-old is accused of killing 12 people and wounding 58 others July 20 shooting in Aurora.

Also Thursday, mediator Ken Feinberg begins meeting with shooting victims and their families as he decides how to distribute charitable donations to them.
