Thornton house explosion may have been intentional

THORNTON — A deadly house explosion last month in Thornton may have been intentional. That’s according to Thornton Police Chief Randy Nelson.

The Denver Post reports that Nelson says the home’s gas line was intentionally tampered with before the June 19 blast.

The blast killed 59-year-old Gary Lee Pine.

Nelson made the remarks at a community meeting Wednesday to discuss the investigation.

Nelson says a flexible gas line was intentionally removed and a pair of pliers was found near the furnace.

He dismissed speculation that drug production caused the explosion. He says the investigation is ongoing.
