Tigers on road for 5A playoffs
Grand Junction High School (6-3) received the No. 23 seed today in the Class 5A state football playoffs and plays at No. 10 Columbine (6-3) in the first round. Game times and dates will be determined by the school administrators Monday.
Fruita Monument did not earn enough wild-card points to reach the field of 32 playoff teams; the Wildcats (4-5) were ranked No. 37 overall and host No. 38 Northglenn (2-7) in a non-qualifier game this week.
ThunderRidge (8-1) is the No. 1 seed in the 5A playoffs, with Ralston Valley (8-1) No. 2.
In Class 2A, Grand Valley (8-1) is the No. 5 seed and hosts No. 12 Middle Park (7-2). Aspen (6-3) is No. 15 and plays at No. 2 Eaton (9-0), with No. 13 Basalt (6-3) traveling to No. 4 Florence (8-1). Kent Denver (9-0) is the top seed, with Bayfield (9-0) No. 3.
Cedaredge (8-1) earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 1A playoffs and hosts No. 14 Centauri (7-2), with No. 10 Hotchkiss (7-2) at No. 7 Wiggins (8-1). Buena Vista (9-0) is the No. 1 seed, with Limon (9-0) No. 2.
In the Class A-8 playoffs, No. 9 West Grand (6-3) is at No. 8 Dove Creek (6-2), No. 5 Norwood (7-1) hosts No. 12 Fowler (6-3) and No. 14 Hayden (7-2) is at No. 3 Akron (8-1). Dayspring Christian Academy (9-0) is seeded No. 1.
The Class 3A and 4A playoffs begin next week.
