Toddler safe after Colorado Springs carjacking

COLORADO SPRINGS — A 3-year-old Colorado Springs boy is back with his parents after he knocked on a stranger’s door in the middle of the night after someone hijacked his father’s car at a convenience store with him inside.

Police say the hijacker let the boy out of the car early Sunday morning about four blocks from where it was taken.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports Anthony Pettiford told police he left his car running.

Traci Gilbert says the toddler knocked on her apartment door and rang the bell around 2:15 a.m. Sunday. She didn’t see anyone when she looked out her peephole, then heard another knock, opened the door and saw the snow-covered toddler on her doorstep asking for help.

He was reunited with his father.

The thief hasn’t been caught.
