Tractor crushes worker to death at golf course

DENVER — Authorities say a 79-year-old worker was crushed to death by a tractor as he was seeding the grounds of a Jefferson County golf course.

Sheriff’s spokesman Mark Techmeyer says John Meyers, of Lakewood, was apparently transferring seed from a front bucket of the tractor to a roller bin on the back at the Meadow Hills Golf Course on Tuesday morning when the vehicle rolled and pinned him beneath a rear wheel. The county coroner’s office says the man died of “mechanical asphyxiation.”

The Denver Post reports golfers discovered the accident near the ninth hole.

Operators of the course, part of the Foothills Park & Recreation District, declined to comment.
