Tuesday night power outage restored within two hours

A power outage just before 9 p.m. Tuesday night, left 9,610 Xcel customers without power for at least an hour, according to Xcel spokesman Fred Eggleston.

The outage affected customers on 12th Street west to U.S. Highway 6&50, the south half of the Mesa Mall to the Redlands Parkway and from D Road to 32 Road.

Power was restored just after 10 p.m. to customers in the downtown area of Grand Junction. Power was restored to the majority of customers in the D Road area at 11:17 p.m., Eggleston said.

Underground cables faulted, nixing the power at three feeders in separate areas of town, Eggleston said.

“Now we have crews at the substation trying to figure it out,” he said.
