Turnovers, penalties prove costly for Mavericks
Colorado Mesa University turned the ball over six times and were penalized 13 times for 102 yards in a 34-7 loss to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
Mines (5-3, 3-3 RMAC) had five turnovers, but the Mavericks gave two of them back to the Orediggers. Mines converted three Mesa turnovers into 17 points.
Mines limited Mesa running back Jack Cimolino to a season-low 24 yards. The Mavericks (3-5, 3-3 RMAC) were limited to 280 yards in total offense and 35 on the ground.
