Two Air Force cadets charged with sexual misconduct

AIR FORCE ACADEMY – Two Air Force Academy juniors face sexual assault charges.

The academy said Tuesday one faces charges of attempted sodomy, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated sexual contact. The other faces charges of sodomy, attempted sodomy and aggravated sexual contact.

Academy officials say the cadets’ names won’t be released until a military court appearance known as an Article 32 hearing, the equivalent of a preliminary hearing in civilian court. Those hearings haven’t yet been scheduled.

The officer presiding at the hearings will recommend to the commandant of the cadet wing whether the cadets should go before a court-martial.

The cases bring to at least five the number of cadets charged with sexual misconduct this year. One was convicted and sentenced to prison, another had charges dropped and a third is awaiting trial.
