Two arrested in Barnes Electric armed robbery
Two people have been arrested in connection with Monday’s attempted armed robbery and assault of a woman outside a business on Riverside Parkway.
Jeremyah D. Woolbright, 23, of Grand Junction, was arrested by SWAT officers late Tuesday as the lone occupant of a room at Motel 6, 776 Horizon Dr., just before midnight, according to an arrest affidavit. Woolbright was booked on suspicion of attempted aggravated robbery, second-degree assault, menacing, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, among other charges.
His girlfriend, Brianna Kuiper, 23, of Grand Junction, was arrested earlier Tuesday on suspicion of complicity and also provided information to police on Woolbright’s whereabouts, the affidavit said.
Officers found a handgun hidden in a ceiling vent inside Woolbright’s hotel room, which had a loaded magazine and a live round in the chamber, the affidavit said.
Woolbright denied involvement in Monday’s incident and told deputies, “he was just being blamed because he was black,” the affidavit said.
Witnesses on Monday told deputies a black man — who wore baggy blue jeans, a black shirt, a black backpack and gold chains around his neck — assaulted a woman who had just returned from her lunch break at Barnes Electric, 2811 Riverside Parkway, as she was still inside her vehicle just before 2 p.m. She was beaten with a handgun, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The woman had just cashed her paycheck at Walmart.
The suspect, described in his 20s with short black hair and a thin build, fled in the Grand Prix with a white male.
