Two arrested in Riverside shooting incident

Marcos Gomez, 20, and Nicholas Guzman, 22, were arrested Saturday in the 1700 block of Rood Avenue in connection to a shooting incident that evening at Riverside Park, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.

Grand Junction Police officers determined at least three shots were fired at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the park at 140 West Avenue. No one was injured but some of the bullets damaged a vehicle. Officers found a vehicle in the 1700 block of Rood Avenue matching a description of a vehicle the shooter or shooters were in, according to a press release from the GJPD. Gomez and Guzman were arrested and taken to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office “based on witness statements and physical evidence,” according to the press release.

Guzman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and a weapons offense. Gomez was arrested on suspicion of a weapons offense, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, criminal impersonation and violation of a restraining order.
