U.S. 550 closed tonight as crews extract truck from canyon
U.S. Highway 550 over Red Mountain Pass, out of Ouray, will be closed overnight as a contractor extracts a vehicle that plunged off the road’s edge and landed about 120 feet down the sheer cliffs.
The driver of vehicle was OK, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The driver of the cab and chassis was headed for Montrose last week when the accident occurred, CDOT said.
The pass will be closed at night from 6 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
