Update: Fire evacuations ordered near Glenwood Springs

Authorities have ordered evacuations this afternoon after the Red Canyon Fire near Glenwood Springs made another run today, consuming an additional 35 or 40 acres.

The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office didn’t say how many homes are estimated to be affected by the order. It said the evacuations have been ordered east of the fire and north to Interstate 70. That’s a generally rural area.

The fire is burning east of Highway 82 and southeast of Glenwood Springs. It was first reported early Monday afternoon and was mapped at more than 200 acres as of this morning.

Authorities have established an evacuation center at Roaring Fork High School in Carbondale. Animals can be taken to the Garfield County Fairgrounds in Rifle.
