US 36 back open after fatal wrong way crash

WESTMINSTER — A major Denver-area highway is back open after a fatal wrong way crash.

U.S. Highway 36 was shut down for about five hours, including most of the morning rush hour, Wednesday after a Ford sport utility vehicle crashed head on into an Acura coupe in Westminster. A man riding in the SUV died and three other people from both vehicles were taken to the hospital.

Police suspect drugs or alcohol may be involved.

The deadly crash came a day after a new bus driver made a wrong turn into Denver’s one-way, high-speed traffic lane during rush-hour traffic. The bus came to an abrupt stop and didn’t cause any crashes.

Road signs are being changed to prevent something similar from happening again.
