Utah police looking for two missing GJ men

Authorities are scouring portions of eastern Utah for two Grand Junction men who were reported missing after they failed to return to work earlier this week.

Mark Widegren and Brian Axe were last seen around 5:30 p.m. Saturday leaving a job site northeast of Price, Utah, according to Teri Wilczek, controller with pipeline construction company W.C. Striegel Inc.

Wilczek said she believes Widegren and Axe were headed to Las Vegas, Nev., but didn’t return to work Monday morning.

A family member reported the men missing Tuesday.

Carbon County Sheriff James Cordova said deputies have checked area motels and other businesses looking for the men’s car, and he sent a deputy up Nine Mile Canyon this morning to check steep embankments and ditches. He said he’s treating the case as a missing persons case and doesn’t believe either man is a victim of foul play.

“We’re doing our due diligence,” Cordova said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office at (435)636-3251.
