Vehicle titling system remains out of service

The Colorado Department of Revenue announced Sunday the troubled computer system that handles vehicle registrations and titles will remain out of service for another week.

Officials worked last week to restore the Colorado State Titling and Registration System, which crashed the previous weekend, and had indicated it would be back up today. Instead, the system is expected to be unavailable until April 4, state Department of Revenue spokesman Mark Couch said.

The aging system had experienced numerous problems in recent years and was down for a week early last month.

County motor-vehicle offices can perform titling transactions but can’t provide same-day printing of those titles. The documents will be mailed to vehicle owners once the system is restored.

Mesa County Clerk and Recorder Sheila Reiner said last week the downed system won’t affect transactions unless they involve records from elsewhere in the state, such as renewing license plates.
