UPDATE: Service restored for Verizon customers

Service for Verizon Wireless customers was re-instated before noon today, during the second day of an outage.

According to general cell phone service agreements, customers who were denied a lack of coverage for 24 hours or more can receive credit for that time, Verizon spokesman Bob Kelley said.

Service was out for just less than 26 hours in the Grand Valley from 9:50 a.m. Monday to 11:30 a.m. today, Kelley said.

Customers who want to receive credit should call or e-mail into the company’s customer care department and submit their addresses.

Service was also out for customers in southern Wyoming and the Pueblo area after a giant computer at a switching center in Aurora malfunctioned, Kelley said.

The network outage is different than the software glitch that downed power for customers in the same geographical area during a late April incident.
