Weather service issues wind advisory

High winds that ripped through the Grand Valley on Saturday will return this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction. A strong-wind advisory is in effect from noon to 9 p.m.

Gusts are expected to be calmer than Saturday, when gusts of up to 60 mph tore through some places. Occasional gusts today are expected to be as high as 45 mph, with steady winds 10 to 25 mph from the south and southwest, the Weather Service said.

Motorists, especially those on Interstate 70, should be prepared for strong crosswinds.

People with respiratory illnesses are also advised to stay indoors and avoid prolonged outdoor exercise to avoid breathing wind-blown dust, the Weather Service said.
