Wells chosen to be new Fruita Monument girls basketball coach

Fruita Monument High School has hired Michael Wells to be its new girls basketball head coach.
He replaces Richard Atkins, whose time with the Fruita girls basketball program ended Sept. 30. Fruita Monument Athletic Director Denny Squibb said he couldn’t say much about Atkins’ departure aside from Atkins told the Wildcats’ players he was released by the school, and Squibb was OK with that characterization.
Wells was an assistant women’s basketball coach for Colorado Mesa University for the past few years, first working under Roger Walters, then last year under first-year CMU coach Taylor Wagner.
