Woman found dead in Colo. ID’d; soldier held in NC

COLORADO SPRINGS — A woman found dead in a Colorado motel room has been identified as 28-year-old Kimberly Walker, and a soldier is being held in North Carolina on suspicion of murder.

Prosecutors in El Paso County, Colo., said Tuesday they have begun the process of extraditing Army Sgt. Montrell Lamar Anderson Mayo. He surrendered in Pitt County, N.C., on Sunday.

Walker was found dead Sunday in Colorado Springs, in El Paso County. An autopsy was performed but the coroner’s office says no information is being disclosed except her name and age.

Mayo was being held without bail on suspicion of first-degree murder after deliberation. It was unclear whether he would fight extradition.

Jail records didn’t indicate whether he had an attorney. Police and prosecutors in North Carolina didn’t immediately return calls Tuesday.
