Women sentenced for toddler’s death

Shanna Gossett and Rebekah Wallin were each sentenced to 48 years in prison for the death of 3-year-old Bethannie Johnson, who paramedics found deceased at a home in the 3000 block of North 14th Street in March 2016.

The Mesa County Coroner’s Office determined the toddler died of multiple blunt-force injuries and ruled her death a homicide.

Gossett and Wallin appeared in a rare joint sentencing hearing at the Mesa County Justice Center Thursday morning several weeks after they each pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.
