Wreck kills Parachute woman
A 20-year-old Parachute woman died after she was thrown from her car when it rolled more than three times along Interstate 70 on Thursday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
Heather M. Jay of Parachute was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Garfield County Coroner’s Office.
About 6:40 a.m., Jay was driving her silver 2003 Dodge Neon west about three miles west of Parachute when she lost control of the vehicle, Sgt. Aaron Laing said.
Jay was thrown from the vehicle after it went into the median and rolled 3 1/2 times. It came to rest on its roof in one of the interstate’s eastbound lanes.
Jay was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, Laing said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and there were no other injuries reported.
Alcohol, drugs and speed are not considered factors in the crash.
