John Denver tribute from the Symphony

Holland native John Adams became a fan of John Denver in 1972. Adams absorbed all he could about the singer’s guitar style and bought each of his albums and music books, according to a news release from the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra.

Since then, Adams has gone from super fan — Adams “performed with or met John Denver on numerous occasions” between 1977 to 1997 — to an advocate for Denver’s memory. Now a Silverthorne resident, Adams will perform his tribute show with the symphony at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Grand Junction High School auditorium, 1400 N. Fifth St.

Adams will bring with him his five-piece band and Aurora Symphony conductor Richard Niezen, who will conduct “A Tribute to John Denver” that will feature such Denver hits as “Sunshine on my Shoulders,” “Calypso,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Annie’s Song” and the memorable “Rocky Mountain High,” the news release said.

Reserved seating tickets to the performance range in cost from $15–$35 for adults and $10 for students.
