American Idol audition to be limited to 120 registrants
Attention Western Slope singers: Put down that hairbrush microphone and stop lip-syncing Britney Spears’ “Oops!...I Did It Again.”
Now is your chance to make it to the big leagues by auditioning for Fox’s “American Idol.”
KFQX-Fox 4 and KREX will host the first-ever Western Slope “Idol” auditions at Ashley Furniture Homestore, 655 N. First St., on Saturday, July 24.
Participants must pre-register Friday, July 23, beginning at 1 p.m. at the store. Contestants must be between the ages of 15 and 28 and present a photo ID. Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian present.
Only the first 120 qualified “Idol” hopefuls will be allowed to audition on Saturday, and contestants should have at least two different tunes prepared for the audition.
Kevin Stanfield, co-anchor of KREX’s news broadcasts, will be one of five judges. The rest have not yet been announced.
Those interested are welcome drop by Ashley Furniture and watch the auditions.
The winner of the local competition will be announced live during the 10 p.m. broadcast by News Channel 5 on Saturday night. That person will be guaranteed the opportunity to sing in front of an “American Idol” producer Aug. 11 in Austin, Texas. Round-trip airfare to Austin and hotel accommodations will be provided.
