Art Center’s First Friday event ‘Mah Jei Mei’ among the many

It may be hot outside, but July’s First Friday gallery happenings offer the perfect opportunity to chill with the artisans.

Dianna Fritzler has returned to town after a four-year hiatus and will be featured at a Reunion Art Show and Sale, happening from 5–8 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at The Blue Pig Gallery, 101 W. Third St. in Palisade. Fritzler will show her art, Bodacious Blooms, and her new Cold Wax Creations.

The evening will feature food and beverages plus the opportunity to see what Fritzler has been up to. Call 464-4819 for more information.

Here are other art events taking place this week:

■ The Art Center’s First Friday Art Reception begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 7, at 1803 N. Seventh St. “Mah Jei Mei” and “Learning” are the featured exhibits, on display through July 29. The reception will have hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Call 243-7337 or visit gjartcenter.org for information.

■ Landscapes and wildlife of the West, by award-winning Grand Junction artist Cynthia Underwood, will be highlighted at the First Friday Artist Reception, from 5–9 p.m. Friday, July 7, at The Main Street Gallery, 412 Main St. Refreshments will be served. Call 245-7949 for more information.

■ An art gallery grand opening will be at 6 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Omnia Contemporary, 639 Main St. The gallery’s opening exhibit is “Prelude” featuring works by Reagan Jericho, Joseph Gonzales and Christian Uriah. Visit facebook.com/omniacontemporary for more information.

■ A First Friday Solo Showcase is planned for 7 p.m. Friday, July 7, at Uncanny Valley Art Gallery, 523 1/2 Main St. The solo show features mixed media of wood cutouts, wood burning and fabric by artist Amy Kuper.

■ Cedaredge will host its monthly First Friday Art Walk on Friday, July 7. Participating businesses and galleries on Main Street will be open. Call 856-6961 for more information.

■ As part of the Cedaredge Art Walk, ImpressionZ Gallery, 105 W. Main St. in Cedaredge, will host demonstrations by Karen Brueggeman in polymer clay art and Ella Kelly in copper torch painting. The reception is from 4–7 p.m. Friday, July 7. Appetizers will be served. Call 399-7577 for information.

■ The Margery Building Art Studios, 523 1/2 Main St., will host a First Friday Art Reception, from 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 7.

■ Brian Durham is the featured artist for July, at the Veteran’s Art Center, 302 S. 12th St. An exhibit opening reception is planned for 6–8 p.m. Saturday, July 8. Visit operationrevamp.org or call 462-3126 for information.

■ The Down By The River Plein Air Festival will be celebrated from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, July 12–15, at the Ute Indian Museum, 17253 Chipeta Road, Montrose. The event is an artist competition, show and sale, open to the community. Cost is a $40 artist registration fee to enter the competition.
