Art on the Corner: ‘Gathering Soul’

“Gathering Soul” by Mary Mansfield of Palisade

SCULPTURE: “Gathering Soul” is in front of Gelato Junction, on the south side of the 400 block of Main Street.

ARTIST: Mary Mansfield of Palisade, (http://www.marymmansfield.com).

DESCRIPTION: The bronze piece stands 27 inches tall and features a barefoot female figure, wearing a two-piece garment. One arm is held outward, hand palm up, and the other arm is behind it, also palm up. The fingers and toes are finely detailed.

INSPIRATION: “I like doing figurative work and, primarily, I do female figures. The inspiration for this piece is to convey giving back the positives that you receive. One hand is behind the back receiving, the other hand is out, giving back the positive inspiration you receive in your life,” Mansfield said.

Mansfield added that the braided hair is like an antenna and that the figure’s eyes are closed because you often tend to make judgment where there is a visual stimulus.

“It’s a symbol of going within, without all of the distraction,” she said.

PAST ENTRIES: This is the first year that Mansfield has submitted a sculpture to Art on the Corner.
