Award-winning comedian coming to Mesa Theater
“A Redneck on acid” is how Newsweek magazine described stand-up comedian Steve McGrew, whose background includes being a cartoonist for the Houston Chronicles and a radio morning show host in Denver.
McGrew will perform on Saturday, Nov. 26, at Mesa Theater and Club, 538 Main St. Guest comedian Mark Lee and a local stand-up audition winner also will perform. Doors will open at 8 p.m., and the show will be at 9:15 p.m.
According to McGrew’s bio at http://www.comedyworksentertainment.com/comedians/28, McGrew has performed at Houston’s Comedy Workshop where Sam Kinison and Bill Hicks launched their careers. He was a Star Search semi-finalist, and his cable comedy show appearances include A&E’s “Evening at the Improv,” Nashville Network’s “Crook and Chase,” Showtime’s “Comedy Club Network” and “Comedy All Stars,” VH-1’s “Stand Up, Stand Up,” MTV’s “Half Hour Comedy Show,” and CMT’s “20 Most Redneck Moments” and “Comedy Stage.”
McGrew also comes highly recommend for getting laughs.
According to The Huntsville Times, McGrew “can make your sides split and eyes tear up for hours on end. And his show seems new each time.” The Chicago Sunday Times says he’s “Loud, funny and surprisingly insightful.”
As an award-winning duo on the KYGO 98.5FM’s morning show in Denver, McGrew (aka “Mudflap”), with co-presenter Kelly Ford, won numerous CMA Broadcast Personalities Of The Year and other notable broadcasting awards.
