Ballet Magnificat concert at Avalon for one show

Ballet Magnificat!, a professional touring arts organization based in Jackson, Miss., will bring its two-piece concert to Grand Junction with one performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Avalon Theatre, 645 Main St.

The concert will open with ” ‘Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth,’ a unique combination of the toe-tapping flamenco guitar and Afro-Cuban rhythms of the band Burlap to Cashmere, and exhilarating choreography that will make you want to get out of your seat and join the dance,” according to a news release.

The second piece will be “Prodigal’s Journey,” a story of forgiveness and restoration told through classical ballet, jazz, modern and some swing dance.

Ballet Magnifcat! was founded in 1986 by internationally acclaimed dancer Kathy Thibideau, who envisioned dance as being a way to proclaim the love of Jesus, the news release said.

Advance tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets at the door are $15 for adults and $10 for ages 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at prodigal-es2.eventbrite.com or at Sonlight Christian Bookstore in Grand Junction.
