Begun in 1897, Strawberry Days to be celebrated in Glenwood
Strawberry Days has grown over the years from a neighborly gathering in 1897 celebrating the area’s strawberry harvest and warm summer days to a three-day festival with food (including strawberries, of course), drink, music and fun.
Strawberry Days will begin Friday, June 18, and continues through Sunday, June 20.
There will be booths to visit and an artisan fair and marketplace at Sayre Park. Food and beer also will be available. Live music will be a big part of the festival and a band schedule can be viewed at http://www.strawberrydaysfestival.com.
Sayre Park also will be the site for the crowning ceremony for Miss Strawberry Days from 5–6 p.m. Friday, the Strawberry Days Kiwanis Ice Cream Social from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday and the Rotary pancake breakfast from 7–11 a.m. Sunday.
The Strawberry Days parade will work its way down Grand Avenue beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.
A carnival will set up at Glenwood Springs Mall and open from 3–10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Parking during the festival is limited and there is no parking along Grand Avenue near Sayre Park. Visitors are encouraged to use Ride Glenwood Springs, which will have extra stops every 30 minutes near Sayre Park and West Glenwood Mall. Free parking will be available at the West Glenwood Park and Ride so visitors can catch a free bus to Sayre Park.
