Citizen-safety academy set

The Grand Junction police and fire departments and 911 communications center will host the Spring 2014 Citizens Public Safety Academy beginning Feb. 20.

The 15-week academy will allow participants to learn about the different aspects of these agencies’ work and duties, including investigating a mock crime scene, using the “jaws of life” to break open a car, listening to 911 calls and learning about drug enforcement.

The classes are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday nights, with one Saturday daytime class May 17.

The registration deadline is Feb. 7 and space is limited. For more information, go to http://www.gjcity.org/CitizensAcademy.
