Signing set for ‘The Little Lead Soldier’
Barnes and Noble Booksellers is set to host a book-signing for Hugh D. Wise III, whose book “The Little Lead Soldier: World War I Letters From a Father to His Son,” was released earlier this year.
The book-signing will be from 2–4 p.m. Saturday at the bookstore at 2451 Patterson Road.
In his book, Wise, an attorney who practiced in Grand Junction from 1969–86, presents letters written during World War I from his grandfather, U.S. Army Col. Hugh D. Wise, to his son (the author’s father). The son had given his father a lead soldier tasked with reporting back news from his father.
Along with those letters, Wise included letters written from the colonel to his wife as well as historical context.
Wrestling, novels topics for ‘Off the Shelf’
Two local authors will be featured at the next “Off the Shelf Author Series” event.
Ray Coca and Karen McKee will be highlighted during the event from 6–7 p.m. Thursday at Crystal Books and Gifts, 439 Main St.
Coca is author of “Elite U.S. Dream Team: A Wrestling Story” and will lead a discussion about wrestling history in western Colorado.
McKee, who writes with the name K.L. McKee, will be discussing her two books, “In Name Only” and “Miracle: A Novella.”
